AYLAAN MOODISON by Estzer

Decelerating worlds, Budapest

These last years had a profound influence on me. I was eager to explore a broader context of my native culture, commodities and freedoms that go with it - out of this curiosity a series of travel projects was born. I call it ‘Decelerating Worlds’ but that’s not really a title, just something that stuck with it.

As I researched my destinations and processed the photos, I gradually embraced a sense of historical injustice towards these developing regions of the world, and how we benefit in our daily lives from this imbalance.

I am planning to go deeper in this topic, I am currently setting up a project to examine the spice production and fair trade practices of Zanzibar. I had no idea three years ago that I was going to do this, it just hit me, and I could not move on ever since.

Although I always envision a bit of chilly holiday vibes when planning a trip, I hardly ever get to enjoy such. There is so much excitement in the world, and traveling really is my mood for taking photos.

This resulted in some really fun collaborations in the last two years: I dragged the eco friendly WAYKS backpack all the way to Cabo Verde, and I also could set up a deal with Hotel Pont d’Agua to allow for shooting in their premises (in return for some photos of course).

Then there were those amazing holiday residences in Lanzarote last year, that just are too inspiring to miss my chance capturing - and so we ended up shooting on 5 days of the week long holidays. Still I say, five days spent really well.
